GOODYEAR Tyler Clippard Jersey , Ariz. (AP) — A week after outfielder Matt Kemp was traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Cincinnati Reds, he got a sideline pass for Oklahoma basketball game and had a chance meeting with another Oklahoma native: Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench.“It was pretty cool,” Kemp said. “It just so happened that I just got traded to Cincinnati. It was only right to sit there and chat with him for a while.”Kemp learned firsthand about some of the Reds’ history after he was included in their biggest offseason trade. Cincinnati acquired Kemp, left-hander Alex Wood, Yasiel Puig and Kyle Farmer for Homer Bailey and minor leaguers Jeter Downs and Josiah Gray on Dec. 21. It was the fourth time the 34-year old outfielder was traded, but this one was unique given that he wasn’t alone going to a new team.“Transitioning every time is different,” he said, as the Reds opened camp with their first workout by catchers and pitchers. “I think this time it is easier. I’ve got a couple guys here who I played with last year. So far so good.”Kemp joins a Reds team with a changed outfield after center fielder Billy Hamilton was allowed to go free and signed with Kansas City. Left fielder Adam Duvall was traded to Atlanta last year.Kemp won Gold Gloves in 2009 and 2011. Last season in 149 games, Kemp played the corner outfield positions. He and Puig join incumbent Jesse Winker, who had shoulder surgery midway through 2018, and Scott Schebler and Philip Ervin in competing for playing time.Kemp batted .290 with 21 home runs and 85 RBIs last season. He was one of seven Dodgers with 20 or more home runs as LA won the National League title but lost to the Boston Red Sox in five games. He is seven seasons removed from 2011, when he led the NL with 39 home runs and 126 RBIs for the Dodgers. Kemp signed a $160 million, eight-year contract and since has been dealt to San Diego, Atlanta, back to the Dodgers and then to the Reds. He and Puig can become free agents after the season, so their time in Cincinnati could be limited.Kemp has a .289 average with 10 homers in 36 games at Great American Ball Park. After four straight 90-loss seasons, the Reds are looking to be more competitive in the NL Central with their overhauled roster.“I think we’re going to be pretty good,” Kemp said. If you missed the first part of this series you can find it here. As always, let us know what you think in the comments below. Who will be the Braves’ biggest surprise in 2019?Doc: Several key contributors on this roster flashed brilliance in one half of the season and played in a rather pedestrian fashion for the rest, but the most jarring was Ozzie Albies.I think he will find a happy medium between the extremes he showed in 2018.Power was never Ozzie’s calling card while coming up through the minors http://www.astrosfanproshop.com/authentic-justin-verlander-jersey , and I think between his early-season home run surge, as well as wearing down over the whole 162, he almost forgot what type of player he’s supposed to be.With a full offseason to reset, as well as knowing there are options to occasionally spell him at second, I think he hits over .300 this season, returns to the All-Star Game, and takes over the leadoff spot (from both sides of the plate) by the time the Braves hit the playoffs.Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY SportsIvan: Wes Parsons, the undrafted free agent and guy-wot-gets-no-love-on-prospect-lists, keeps Wes Parsoning into league-average run prevention across a variety of roles (starter, long relief, high leverage relief) and filling holes amicably as the team’s other players for those spots occasionally go down with injury. Bonus: Kolby Allard somehow ends up not as bad a major league pitcher as his lack of stuff and horrid tiny-sample 2018 showing augured.Dillon: Patrick Weigel makes at least 10 starts in Atlanta this season. He may not be the highest rated arm in the system, but the organization is high on him, and with continued good health Weigel could break out in a big way. Kris: Many people have Max Fried penciled in as a swingman or a reliever I think he has what it takes to make a substantial impact in the starting rotation. He will have plenty of competition with all of Atlanta’s young starters and there is still some questions in regards to his command, but he has shown when healthy that he can be effective. Anthony: Dansby Swanson will improve offensively to a 100-105 wRC+ hitter in 2019 (up from 80 wRC+ in 2018) and, with the help of a healthy wrist, hit 20+ HR. With his already good defense and baserunning, he’ll have a 4 WAR season.Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY SportsAaron: Alex Jackson. At some point McCann or Flowers will hit the IL, and with that Alex Jackson is going to get a chance to play at the major league level. His first full season of catching was 2017 and then the Braves played him him the AFL. No doubt in my mind that this impacted his 2018 performance. This is a big year for Ajax and I think he delivers.Eric: I am with Ivan on this one in Parsons. I think he ends putting up some real numbers out of the bullpen and makes a spot start or two. I also think that Dansby Swanson turns into a league average hitter which, with his defense, makes him a valuable piece to the roster.Demetrius: I’m gonna echo Anthony here and say that I think that this is the year where Dansby takes a step forward at the plate. A ~100 wRC+ season might be a surprise but I think we all know that he’s got this type of season in him. It’s just a matter of whether or not it comes now or later. Hopefully it comes now!ABsinceWayBack: There’s not a single guy for me here outside of Acu帽a, but nothing he would do would surprise me here. But I will say that our starting pitching will be much better than it looks on paper right now. Paper says Folty is our only good one, but six guys are poised to really fill in the rotation. Barring injury, in September the rotation might look something like Folty Yuli Gurriel Jersey , Newcomb, Soroka, and any two of Wright, Toussaint, Wilson, Anderson, and maybe even Allard or Gohara. Shawn: Dansby Swanson. It’s make or break time for Dansby, as the current front office does not have ties to him.Plus, With Carmargo and Riley in the wings, there are alternatives.I feel Dansby gets stronger as the year goes on, and starts to put together stretches like his 2018 April. If Dansby can hit at a .270/.330/.425, it will be a significant boost to extending the lineup at the bottom of the order. And with his defense, will make him quite valuable. Matt: I will say Julio being the Team Pitching MVP. It’s no secret that a good sized portion of the fan base has their complaints with Julio, so him taking a step back in the right direction will likely surprise that portion of the fan base.Who will be the Braves’ biggest disappointment in 2019?Doc: By the time July rolls around, Sean Newcomb will be in Gwinnett to work on his control.I think he hears the footsteps of 200 pitching prospects coming to take his job, and it’s getting inside his head.Spring Training stats are obviously meant to be taken with a grain of salt, but for a guy whose walk rates were already too high, this Spring has really been a step in the wrong direction.Unfortunately for him, by mid-season I think he gets lapped and really has to fight for his way back into the rotation.Maybe it’ll be good for him.Ivan: Touki Toussaint and Max Fried go through trying spells of poor control/command over the course of the year, forcing the Braves to lean more heavily on their other arms and use a more cobbled-together rotation in the summer and fall than you’d like a contender to do. In the end, they end up more as a bulk-guy/multi-inning relief types than two/three-TTO run preventers. Bonus: Despite below-average production over the course of the year, Nick Markakis is still starting for the team in August and September.Kim Klement-USA TODAY SportsDillon: Nick Markakis. The totality of his work last season looks okay, but the second half was bad and the playoffs were worse. This was an obvious opportunity to upgrade Jake Marisnick Jersey , and potentially add a couple wins to a team with a highly variable win expectancy. Kakes takes an even bigger step back, and still gets >500 at-bats because, you know, Snitker. I’ll even double down on this and say the club picks up his option next offseason. How’s that for disappointment?Kris: I’m going with Nick Markakis and not because I think he is going to have an unproductive season. I figure Markakis will end up with similar numbers to his first four seasons in an Atlanta uniform which will be perfectly serviceable. However, the Braves had an opportunity to upgrade that position and elected to stick with the status quo. Dale Zanine-USA TODAY SportsAnthony: How Ozzie Albies performs this year seems to be polarizing on here. I think Albies will take a step back offensively after an uncharacteristic display of power in the first half of 2018. He will hit only about 15 HR and have a sub-.300 OBP. In other words, I think we see more second-half Ozzie than first-half Ozzie. He is still very young and has some kinks to work through offensively, especially hitting from the left side of the plate.Aaron: Ozzie Albies unfortunately. He doesn’t walk enough to hit high in the order, and his power will take a step back. According to Fangraphs, Ozzie ranked 123rd on O-Swing% (swings on balls outside the strike-zone). That’s out of 140 qualified batters. I still believe in Ozzie, but until he improves his plate discipline and walk rates, I don’t see how he takes a step forward.Eric: I would pick Markakis, but I don’t necessarily think that expectations for him are particularly high and there has to be some sort of statute of limitations on my disappointment for not upgrading right field鈥?it is what it is. I’ll pick Newcomb simply because he just cannot seem to avoid big innings and walks which is a recipe for disaster.Kim Klement-USA TODAY SportsDemetrius: I’m also on the anti-hype train when it comes to Newcomb. He showed some amazing promise during the early stages of last season but it seems like he’s been having so much trouble trying to avoid handing out walks and the results during spring training haven’t been encouraging, either. Of course, you want to see him get it together and fix these issues, but I also wouldn’t be shocked if we’re all trying to figure out what’s in the future for him at the end of this season.ABsinceWayBack: Someone needs to explain Kevin Gausman to me. Not the reasons for acquiring him but his arsenal. I don’t know what he does well. A declining fastball and so-so offspeed pitches looks like Teheran to me. He will pitch past the All-Star break but expecting him to do well this season will cause disappointment. Hopefully I’m wrong here.Shawn: Ender Inciarte.I feel there is a good chance Snitker stays traditional a bit too long while Inciarte struggles out of the game. With the question marks with their pitching, the Braves need their offense at maximum production. That is not giving more at bats to Inciarte.I feel the pressure may get to him, and opportunities could be wasted. If Acuna is switched the top spot quickly, I can also see Inciarte being a hole in the starting lineup. While his defense is very valuable, AA as already made moves to lessen his playing time in the past. I feel there is a good chance that happens again. Matt: Folty. I like the guy a lot and love what he’s been able to make himself into, but with the injury questions hanging over him I really question just how close to 100% he will be for any period of time. I think pitching through some pain will hurt his numbers and potentially cost him some time as well.
